We worked with the Bloomberg Originals team to direct the key photos for Kal Penn's new streaming show, Getting Warmer with Kal Penn. The show, produced by Bloomberg Originals, follows Kal Penn as he travels the country looking at businesses, initiatives, researchers and communities transitioning to clean energy, exploring the critical topics connected to climate change and how to tackle this issue together.
Working at 7 Line Studio in Long Island City, we built three mini-sets within the studio, to capture a wide range of looks for the show’s key art. We had our stylist, Walter Atta, produce two looks that could be used in all three scenes.
Our first look leaned towards a classic editorial style that showcased Kal in a more serious tone. The white seamless gave us the opportunity to play with more natural light as a metaphor for warming up. We also brought in light props to bring the show’s global theme to the forefront.
Our third scene leaned more experimental, playing with a two-toned fabric backdrop and gel lighting to create an effect reminiscent of fire. We wanted to become more literal in our presentation of the concept. Ultimately, the Bloomberg team selected these shots for the key art.
